Day 8 Aug 6 Baseball Anyone?

Headed to the AT&T Park where the San Francisco Giants do their business. I must say I really enjoyed the experience even though I am not a big baseball fan as I find the game to be a little slow and the players to be completely way to overpaid. But it was fun! We got great seats from a scalper (person who sells tickets at the front gate for usually more then they paid for them for less than the regular price as the game had already started. 2nd Row off the first base line where Barry Bonds likes to hit his home runs and where the opposition pitchers warm up in the "bull pen". Check out the photos and note the people in boats waiting to catch a home run ball. Also, Barry Bonds at bat and how they turn the trolley.

Day 7 Aug 5 Fisherman's Wharf

One of the hottest days of the year for Frisco at about 85F (27C). Went down to Fisherman's Wharf and catch a boat trip around the Bay. Wanted to go to Alcatraz, but it was sold out until Wednesday. That is absolute BULLSHIT and if you are planning to visit make sure to book that in advance as apparently this happened to my mom only 6 months earlier. Took the trolley there and walked back, not sure which way is up hill as it seemed to go up and down and up and down…

Ate at "left of Albuquerque" which was great and went to a couple of bars around Fillmore st?

Day 6 Aug 4 San Francisco

Checked out of Garberville and joined up with the very famous Hwy 1. Unbelievable. Start of Hwy at Legget, where this bike was layed down by a previous owner, was crazy all the way to Fort Bragg. The road curves through the mountains for 30 miles or so opening up to the Pacific Ocean! C=9,R=7,T=1,V=8. No traffic either as it is too difficult for most vehicles. Top Ten in my travels.
I continued on from Casper to San Fran (Frisco if you are American). Great ride with curves and view. C=7, R=7,T=3,V=9. Miles of ups and downs, twists, ocean, mountain, valley. Not to be missed either on a Motorbike or a car. I will point out that you definitely want to miss the last 25 miles from Stinson Beach to the City as it is potholed and jammed with traffic as the speeds don't get higher then 25 miles/h. Quick point for all of us metric lovers 1 mile = 1.6 km, but as I am in the states I will speak in miles.
Checked in to the Westin St. Francis which is on Union Square. I normally would not stay there, but Tom cut me a good deal and it was worth it! Just to give you an idea, to park a car in the hotel parking lot for 24 hours costs $45!!! Can't imagine what non-guests pay.

Day 5 August 3 Garberville

I bought some jumper cables in case my battery dies again. Stopped to put water in our tires, no really! Not only did we have to pay for the air at the Gas station in Coos Bay (Chevron), but one of us accidentally tired to put water in their tire instead of air. I’m not naming names, but it wasn’t me. Crescent city to Klamath C-8, R-6, T-3, V-6. This was right by the tree you drive through, which had to be done, but wasn’t that good. I wish we had more time to spend in the Redwood forests.

Stayed in Garberville for the night which was hosting one of the biggest Reggae festivals in the USA, so there were potheads around. Most of the people camped at the concert, so the town was pretty quiet as it was the first night. Found out at the bar that Humbolt county is the pot capital of the USA. Wow…

Day 4 August 2 Coos Bay

Astoria to Seaside is a terrible road! Avoid it!!! C-3, R-6, T-9, V-4. After that you hit Seaside to Tillamook which is much better C-6, R-6, T-3, V-8.

On this day I found out how to kill a battery on my bike. Apparently bike batteries don’t charge when you are sitting in idle, which I was for about 10 minutes and then I stopped the bike only to be restarted by a tow truck ($60)! Tom tipped the Tow trucker driver $10? I didn’t know that was the etiquette. I get the feeling Tom tips where ever he goes. Good riding overall with cops about every 40 miles.

Oh yes and the topper for the evening was two medium pizzas at the bargain price of $55 and the pizza was probably the worst we ever had. Enough grease to lube the front end of a car.

Day 3 Aug 1 Astoria Oregon

Took off from Tom and John’s wonderful Hotel and proceeded South. Made it to the US border before 12 pm and waited in an hour long line to enter the states. Stuck to the I5 until we jumped over to Edmunds to catch a short little ferry to the back country on the West coast, like the Movie “Deliverance”. Navigated our way to Astoria for the night where we were greeted by an impressive bridged entrance amongst this pint size town. Grabbed a last call burger at the only place open, after we convinced the grill lady to stay open for us. Hopefully we will get more organized as the trip progresses.

Day 2 July 31 Vancouver

Spent lunch with Bob and Lisa. Took a great road from Penticton to Hedley and spent a minute or two at the West Hedley Mall. C=8,R=8,T=3,V=7.
Buddies John and Tom decided to stay at the Westin on Bayshore dr (top 5 hotels in Vancouver, $330/night). I stayed at the Jericho Beach Hostel instead.

Day 1 July 30 Penticton

Well I got out to a late start as I had to finish finding things and then packing them away. I decided to take the long and less travelled road to Penticton. 920 km later, after surviving some rain, a temperature drop down to 5 C from 26 C, and a couple of wrong turns I completed my longest riding day in history! Trail to Osoyoos; Curves = 7, Road = 7, Traffic = 4, View = 8.
